National Overseas Scholarship 2026-27: Dates, Registration, Eligibility, Benefits, Selection Process

The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India offers the National Overseas Scholarship 2026-27 Scheme which provides the opportunity to study aborad. The NOS (National Overseas Scholarship) scheme provides the financial support for SC/ST students to pursuing Master’s Degree and Ph.D programs in various foreign countries. Every year, National Overseas Scholarship Registration ends on 31 March.

National Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2026-27 Study Abroad in Free!

The National Overseas Scholarship for SC / ST, Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans Category Candidates are eligibility to apply for this Central Sector Scheme. NOS Scholarship Scheme helps to study abroad for low income students. Under this scheme students can obtain higher education such as Master Degree or Ph.D Courses by studying abroad thereby improving their Economic and Social Status.

As per received information various sources, Availability of Seats under National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) Scheme for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe is going to double for session 2026-27. Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Tribal Affairs has informed in Parliamentary Standing Comittee about to double the number of seats under NOS Scholarship Scheme 2026-27. So, we have to wait to release the NOS Scholarship 2026-27 Official Notification cum prospectus to confirm the new seats.

NOS Scholarship Age Limit

• The applicant age not exceed to 35 years.
• Age limit count with reference of 01 April 2026.

NOS Scholarship Academic Qualification

• For Master’s Degree: At least 60% marks or equivalent grade is required in the qualifying exam (Bachelor’s Degree).
• For Ph.D Programs: Minimum 60% marks in Master’s Degree required.

Note: Bachelor’s Degree courses are not covered under this scholarship scheme.

Family Income Criteria for NOS Scholarship 2026-27

• The Family Annual Income from all sources shall not exceed Rs.8 lakh per annum in the preceding financial year.

Other Eligibility Conditions for NOS Scholarship 2026

• Reservation for Female Candidates: 30% of total seats are reserved for female applicants.
• Candidate must have an unconditional offer of admission to top 500 ranked foreign Institutes/Universities as per the latest available QS World University Rankings.
• Students who are already studying abroad are not eligible to apply for this scholarship scheme.
• This scholarship cannot be considered for the award for a second time as the award can be given only once. The second child of the same parents/ guardians will be considered only if slots are still available in the last cycle of the year in which the applicant has applied.

National Overseas Scholarship 2026-27 Dates

The application period for NOS Scholarship first round is 40 days in February/March every year. But for session 2026-27, application process has not started yet. The selection year period would be April-March of each year. The apply online process will active for 40 days. In case slots remain unfilled, the portal will be opned again for second cycle in September/October for a period of 40 days.

Documents Required for National Overseas Scholarship 2026

Candidates who are going to apply for this scholarship scheme must upload the following documents during the online application:

• Aadhaar Card
• Caste/category certificate
• Birth certificate (Age Proof Certificate)
• Recent Passport-size photograph
• Scanned signature
• Address proof
• Educational Marksheets
• Valid admission offer letter from foreign university
• Family Income certificate
• Employer’s NOC (if employed)

Note: After selection candidate also need to provide the additional documents such as passport copy, visa documents, etc.

Steps to Apply Online for NOS Scholarship 2026-27

• Visit the National Overseas Scholarship official website – www.nosmsje.gov.in.
• On Homepage, at Main Menu Section you will find Login and Registration Button. If you are new user then click on “Registration” button to register online.
• You will be redirected to new page and fill the required details for Online Registration.
• Enter the personal, academic and income details in right box.
• Upload the scanned documents as per the requirement.
• Review the details entered and uploaded documents.
• Submit the application before the closing date. Also take a printout of it.

National Overseas Scholarship 2026-27 Financial Assistance

The shortlisted candidates will get the following benefits under the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme – Study Abroad:

• Tuition Fees: Actual as charged.
• Visa Fees: Actual Visa Fees in INR.
• Medical Insurance Premium: Actual as charged.
• Incidental Journey Allowance: $20 US Dollars for each or its equivalent in Indian Rupees.
• Air Passage: The shortlisted students will be allowed to purchase air tickets from nearest Airport to Hometown in India to the nearest place to the educational institute.
